See with travelmasti.com the deal is totally different. Its not to develop synergy between indiatimes travel and travelmasti but its more of a VC investment in an growing company. If you would have been keeping track of investments being made by BCCL they are not trying to backward integrate any. Travelmasti has been around for some time and has been marketing through niche low cost methods like on airtel phone bills etc. I did a post couple of months ago on their site after being down with so many travel portals hogging the light and providing zilch!!!!

the thing is internet travel industry if you will dig deep, they have different segments which different companies are trying to master.In the segment which travelmasti is trying to operate their are buying inventory directly from the smaller hotel hence generating deals which are more practically then results thrown up by travelport or other GDS being used by these portals. Yatra is another one on spree to collect inventory but their business model doesnt support tie up with smaller hotel’s but going the chain wise approach of acquiring inventory.
